filter4 has been in existence since 2001 and is based in the former, 110-year-old, heritage-protected water filtration facility on Bruderholz, which once played a central role in supplying drinking water to the population of Basel. The organization of this cultural association consists of a total of six people. Each season, up to 15 people are involved in the individual projects. Between May and the end of October, there are usually about five art exhibitions, up to ten concerts and about the same number of private events. The focus is on contemporary art and interdisciplinary projects. Filter4 cooperates with artists, artist groups and other cultural institutions and initiatives from Switzerland and abroad. The focus of the multifaceted activities is on the uniqueness of the location and making it known through networking.
