In the rear building of the Amerbachstudios cooperative, in the stately entrance hall with its spacious staircase, exhibitions and events are organized on two floors. The space functions sometimes with, sometimes without a curatorial board and relies on initiative and the desire to show. Projects can be displayed, hung, projected, performed, served and discussed here in their raw beginnings or as polished works.

The cooperative is a residential and studio community. It houses the VIA, a studio for audio, video and performance art founded in the fall of 1988 with sporadic studio events, as well as various studios of artists and designers, a guest studio, the Bildwechsel Basel library, storage rooms in the basement and the exhibition space in the stairwell. In addition to the five apartments for artists, the front building includes projects such as the billboard with changing exhibitions in the outdoor area and the monthly model as an experimental space for test runs in public.
